Taxi Driver
Name: | Taxi Driver |
Developer: | Papaya Studio |
Systems: | PS2, Xbox |
Due date: | Spring 2006 |
Taxi Driver is a cancelled PS2 and Xbox game from Papaya Studio.
The game would be a GTA-style game based on the 1976 hit movie.
Plot
Taxi Driver is set two months after the movie.
Travis Bickle is cleaning up the scum in the city.
Gameplay
The gameplay is akin to Crazy Taxi: pick up people and drop them off at their destination.
Some pedestrians give missions when picked up, like a drive-by shooting or driving to a soon-to-be crime scene.
One interesting gameplay mechanic is the stress meter: killing innocents builds the meter.
If the stress gets too much, Travis passes out and you restart at the last checkpoint.
Since Travis wants to take out scum, there are plenty of missions that involve killing mobsters.
Run around on foot, gun in hand, and peer around corners to shoot.
Development
This game was developed to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the film.
Cancellation
Majesco was running out of money.
Big budget titleslike Psychonauts drained finances money.
Majesco cancelled Taxi Driver in January 2006.
