Strident: The Shadow Front is a cancelled Xbox, Xbox 360, and PC game by Phantagram.
It was to be a post-apocalyptic action game.

Plot

Just after World War III, things are pretty grim.
The United Nations has an peace-keeping agency called FIST.
You lead a FIST team but an ambush in Israel leaves almost all your team dead.

You play as a female soldier that goes by the codename 'Strident'.
She is now being hunted by the same people she thought were her allies.

You wake in a research lab and seek to escape.
Battle suits are laying around to assist you. These grant you great power.
The variety of power suits allows you to choose your playstyle.

Gameplay

There would be around twenty missions, each with its own theme.
These can either be target elimination, stealth infiltration, aerial combat, underwater combat, or defend an area.
Some missions even have a team of AI allies to order around once freed.

Combat could be done with other melee or gunfire.

Development

In 2002 Phantagram held a contest for Phantom Crash to promote the game.
The grand prize for winner: this game and Duality delivered to you for free upon their release.

Cancellation

Strident was cancelled around 2006.
In 2003 Phantagram ceased production to work on Kingdom Under Fire: The Crusaders.
Strident was slated for a 2006 release on the Xbox 360, but Phantagram then went out of business.

Timeline:

  • 2002: development begins
  • 2003: development ceases to work on Kingdom Under Fire: The Crusaders
  • 2006: game is cancelled
