Due date: late 1997

Spirit Master is a cancelled PlayStation game by Probe Software Inc.
It was a 3D horror fighting game.

Plot

The plot of the game is that legendary creatures worldwide have been summoned.
They have been drawn in by Mantis, who then sends them through a Spirit Gate.
This makes them mortal. Since they each have a reason to fight, they have at it.

Gameplay

The game was going to exploit the third dimension so you can fight on multiple vertical levels.
You can build up magic chi by holding button combinations.
This in turn affects the environment, and your enemy.

Various mythological creatures would have included Minos, Caliban, Baron Samedi, and Omega.
Each has a reason for fighting.

On Hard difficulty you will need to block high, medium, or low to block attacks at that range.
On Easy difficulty blocking will deter any attack.

Four-player multiplayer was also considered.

Development

Martial artists were motion-captured for the moves.
The technology was brand new, so development crawled at a poor pace.

Cancellation

Spirit Master was cancelled by Acclaim in 1997 for poor expected returns.
