Shredfest
Name: | Shredfest |
Developer: | Electronic Arts |
Systems: | PS1, Saturn, 3DO |
Due date: | 1996, then 1997 |
Shredfest is a cancelled PlayStation, Saturn, and 3DO game from Electronic Arts.
It was to be an extreme sports game.
Gameplay
Shredfest was to be a fast action snowboarding game with a licensed soundtrack.
The gameplay was going to be a mixture of arcade and realism.
There would have been video clips of the pro boarders in action.
The game was to feature snowboard manufacturers and 15 pro boarders sponsored by them.
Some of the pro snowboarders include Shaun Palmer, Megan Pischke, and Seth Miller.
You would play as a rookie. Your goal is to hit it big.
To advance up the leaderboard you need to win competitions.
These range in six different disciplines, from slaloms to trick and speed contents.
There was to be eight resorts based on real locations.
Tricks would have been rewarded on a variable scale.
Variables affect trick points such as speed, height, complexity, and other stats.
For multiplayer there was to be a four player mode.
Development
The models and animations were motion-captured and digitized for the game.
These were done by the same snowboarders playable in the game.
The 3DO version was quickly abandoned due to the 3DO being more suited to 2D game engines.
Cancellation
Shredfest was cancelled due to EA acquiring lots of studios at the time.
To offset the costs and focus on more profitable ventures, this game was scrapped.
Prototype
A prototype of this game exists and has been sold between private collectors.
It has yet to be dumped.
