Shenmue Online is a cancelled PC MMORPG by Sega.
It would be based on Shenmue II.
Gameplay
The setting was 1980's Hong Kong.
Players can join one of three clans and interact with the world.
Development
Sega joined forces with JC Entertainment from Korea Online.
T2 Technology Holdings from China helped integrate the concept of MMOs into China.
Sega even had Yu Suzuki supervising the game.
In 2005 JC Entertainment pulled out, claiming they had 50% ownership.
Yu Suzuki assured the press that the game would still be made.
Cancellation
In 2006 more of the game was revealed at the China Expo.
In 2007 the game went quiet. It was rumoured to have been cancelled.
Although Sega refused to comment on the game, it is presumed dead.
