Sacred Pools aka The Sacred Pools is a cancelled Saturn and PC game from SegaSoft.
It was aiming to combine Myst with sexy women.
Plot
You are on the island of Amazonia.
The island use to be safe and free of vice but over time it became a dangerous place of lust.
Your goal is to reach the eponymous Sacred Pools.
Gameplay
The game would be an FMV-heavy title.
You can walk around the island using Virtual Navigation in Real Space technology.
There was to be combat fighting the tribes, and dancing with the lovely ladies.
Development
The game began production under the name Amazonia.
Sacred Pools billed itself as being an adult game, with plenty of nearly naked women and blood and gore.
It would not scheduled for release in the United States due to the risque content.
Sacred Pools was shown off at E3 1996.
Sega threw a big party at E3 in a VIP lounge area with aerialists performing.
The negative reception the game received at E3 was instrumental to its cancellation.
A PlayStation port was considered and a proof-of-concept decoder was created.
Cancellation
The game was likely cancelled because the game could not possibly sell enough to pay off the $3 million that went into it.
Segasoft became The Code Monkeys, which closed its doors in 2011.
Prototype
A Saturn prototype of this game exists but has yet to be dumped.
