Systems: PS1, PC, CD-i
Due date: 1996, then 1997

Demon Driver is a cancelled PS1, PC, and CD-i game from Haiku Studios.
It was to be a cartoony racer game, and the last by the studio.

Plot

Scrapertown is ruled by fascists who keep hippies and feminists under their jackboot.
You play as Ritchie, racer and former policeman.
You would need to win races to ascend the social hierarchy and take on the government.

Gameplay

There was to be seventeen tracks. These were held over three championships:

Championships
Fringer Tarcks set in sewers and subways
Scrapertown Tracks set in on surface level
Zeppelin Globe Tracks set in sky-high

In between races you can interact with your opponents, both bested and upcoming.
How you interact with them determines events, such as upcoming racers and story beats.

The game takes advantage of the S3 ViRGE graphics card.
This allowed for cinematic 3D camera angles and camera control.
