Plot

In the year 3000 B.C., two nations are at war: the Incas and Atlantis.
Atlantis is more technologically adept but the Incas have the population advantage.
Then aliens land on Earth and trade resources for guns, giving the Incas a weapons advantage.

Gameplay

The game would take place over 17 missions across various planets.
Locations include Earth, various moons, and tenth planet of the Solar System, home of the aliens.
You can choose one of four story paths though they do connect at the end.

You are equipped with a memobox, which is an all-in-one computer you keep in your inventory.
This gadget can bring up the map, long distant communicate, and hack into alien machinery.
It can also generate power-shields to block enemy projectiles, but you can't attack with it up.

There was over ten weapons to choose from. These include a pistol, a plasma gun, magnetic field thrower, ray emitters, and grenade launchers.
There are also traps, like mines, proximity mines, projectile reflectors, and cover creators.

There was to be various ways progress through the levels.
You can run-and-gun, solve puzzles, or do diplomacy with NPCs; each has their pros and cons.

Multiplayer would include classic deathmathes, team deathmatches, capture the flag, and missions.
To boost contestant count, players can spawn NPCs that they can control.

Development

Atlantica was powered by the Insanity Engine, which was previously used on Hidden and Dangerous.

The game was planned to be ported to the PS2 and Xbox after launch.

Cancellation

Atlantica was cancelled in late 2002 to focus on other projects, like music players for phones.
